The Advent Wreath -3

Candle three represents the light Christ brought to the world through his words of compassion, hope and promise. He reminds us from his childhood how he must be about his Father’s business. He declares himself to be the light of the world and yet he pursues not the religious, but the lost. He redeems the sinner and welcomes the harlot. He has compassion for the sick, those help captive by sin, and even the most humble beggars. He banishes our darkness. He rescues us and declares us righteous.

May we, as his church, also be about our Father’s business by reflecting the heart of Christ for the lost in our communities. Let his words of healing and the Gospel be our words. We see the light of Christ in the words of hope he graciously anointed on those in need:

“Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.”

“According to your faith be it done to you.”

And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will. Be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

“I will come and heal him.”

“Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.

May his words be our liturgy as we go out into the world.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12

Christ as the word In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:4-5
